There are issues that are hard to imagine the world without. Issues that are so widespread and deeply ingrained in society, it doesn’t feel possible to overcome them.

Fortunately, there are people and groups with the ambition and drive to eradicate endemic problems, no matter the scope.

Save The Children is one such project. Their goal is that no child should have to go through hunger, poverty, should have an equal chance at life. Save the Children is the world’s leading expert on childhood care. Founded over 100 years ago, they have changed the lives of over 1 billion children. In 2020 alone, their work was able to reach more than 197 million children around the world.

We are proud to be working alongside them and their mission and are delighted to be able to offer the MUNCH community the option to support them.

Who are Save The Children?

in 1919, when Eglantyne Jebb founded Save the Children, her conviction that children have the right to grow up healthy, educated, and safe was not a mainstream idea.

Save The Children are global leaders in child health, education, and protection. They have a proven track record in using donations efficiently and effectively, with 85% of all donations going directly to the causes they support.

Save The Children work in the hardest-to-reach places, where it’s toughest to be a child. Through their support infrastructure, they are able to mobilize world-class health professionals to work for children in crisis anywhere in the world within 72 hours, transforming how emergency care is delivered.

Save the Children Federation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. Charity watch groups have named them as a top-rated children’s charity among all non-profit organizations. They have been recognized with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, an A rating from GenderFair, and an A- rating from CharityWatch. They champion the values of gender equality, earning the first nonprofit Gender Fair certification.

How can MUNCH help?

With such a long history and wealth of experience, Save The Children operates with a very efficient financial model When you give to Save the Children, 85% of every dollar goes straight to lifesaving relief to children.

This means:

  • $50 can provide enough food to keep 3 children from going hungry for a month
  • $150 can wrap warm, cozy blankets around 30 children affected by conflict
  • $300 can provide 150 face masks to refugee health workers on the front lines

As with many of the crises we have looked at for MUNCH to support, the impact of COVID-19 has worsened issues of poverty, access to health and nutrition, deepening hunger and malnutrition in vulnerable communities.

Making progress in these areas is often slow, but the effects of the pandemic threaten to reverse years of progress made in these battles. Children — especially those in poorer households or in crises and conflict zones will be the hardest hit.

Save the Children is active and on the ground in these conflict zones, leading the world in helping children escape the primary and secondary dangers of war. Save the Children is there, and often among the first to respond in areas affected by natural disasters.

By helping Save The Children, the MUNCH community will be directing funds to urgently needed areas, helping one of the world’s most experienced and effective charities maintain and add to the progress they have made against this remarkable challenge.
