Tips on keeping your tokens secure

Congratulations, you have successfully purchased a token through the MUNCH Fiat to Crypto service!

What now?

You are now the sole owner of the tokens you purchased. This means you are responsible for their security and should follow these best practices to avoid losing your tokens or falling victim to a potential scam.

Following these security tips will ensure that you remain the only person with access to your wallet and in control of your tokens.

Keeping your password & seed phrase secure

Access to your wallet is controlled with a seed phrase or password (depending on the wallet you use, you will either access with a seed phrase or password). This phrase or password is how you access your tokens, send them to different addresses, and make transactions.

If you lose your password or seed phrase you will not be able to access your tokens and there is no service that can recover the password or phrase for you.

As a decentralized wallet, if you lose access you lose access permanently so you need to be able to remember your seed phrase and password whilst also keeping it secure.

If you need to write it down, make sure to write it offline. Do not store passwords on your computer, phone, or email address as these can be compromised. Store sensitive information in a safe, offline location and never share this information with other people.

You should NEVER:

  • Share your password, seed phrase, or private key with ANYONE
  • Send tokens to anyone you do not know
  • Share your screen with someone you do not personally know and can confirm the identity of
  • Write your password or seed phrase on your computer or phone

As well as digital security, remember offline security, too. If you write your seed phrase down, make sure this is also in a private and secure place.

Be careful when connecting your wallet to unknown projects

As well as attempting to gain access via your password or seed phrase, hackers may attempt to get you to connect your wallet to various malware accounts in an attempt to access your funds.

You may be invited to participate in a giveaway or contest by sending funds or connecting your wallet to receive tokens. Connecting your wallet to such an account can give hackers access to your funds with no way to return any stolen funds.

If you notice a new token in your wallet (from an airdrop or giveaway) exercise extreme caution before connecting to it. If you have to connect your wallet to receive a prize or bonus, consider if it is likely to be genuine.

Remember! If something sounds too good to be true, it likely is.

If you need to connect your wallet to take a specific action, you need to verify the project and the token address before doing so. If you are in any doubt, you should look for more confirmation before taking action.

Verify who you are talking to before taking any action

Lastly, people may message you through platforms such as Telegram in order to try to gain access to your account or engineer you into giving out your details.

The helpful person answering your questions may not be who they say they are. Before sharing any information or sending any tokens, it is important to verify, for certain, who you are talking to.

Remember that anyone can claim to:

  • Work for MUNCH, for the project you purchase tokens from
  • - Want to help you solve an issue you have
  • Be a person that you know or are trying to reach out to

When dealing with online information try to:

  • Verify the exact URLs of websites you visit
  • Look for HTTPS
  • Check links to multiple communication channels
  • Always double check before connecting your wallet or sending tokens
  • Double-check addresses before sending

Never share your password, seed phrase, private keys, or account information with anyone. If you have ANY doubts over the identity of someone you are speaking with, always verify the source via their official communication channels.

Whilst crypto scams are currently common, by following these practices, you will make sure that your wallet and tokens remain safe and secure.
